The Grand National revival

As far as horse racing goes the Grand National is the daddy of them all, even if horse racing still congers the image of a smelly betting shop packed full of old men holding betting slips. Yet a staggering £150,000.000 (estimated) in bets were placed over the weekend and 63% of them made using a phone app!
In the sporting world the Grand National is as big as it gets with a reporting viewing interest of 600 Million viewers worldwide, 70,000 of which were lucky enough to watch it live at Aintree.

A genuinely massive event that has evolved enough to be a serious contender for any other sport on TV or online.

Betting on the Grand National has never been easier with most of us owning an iPhone or Android devise with a betting app or two. The days of having to run off to the bookies may be over, but the latest technology can’t help you pick the winner.

OpenBet recorded a staggering 19.3m sports bets over the 24 hours leading up to the race. At one point they were taking 45,000 bets every minute, with a total over 54m account transactions. The Grand National is alive and kicking and doesn’t look like it will be slowing down anytime soon.

For anyone who placed a bet on one of the runners up it proves that although Many Clouds won, not every cloud has a silver lining. Sorry couldn’t resist.
