Restricted territories apply

I love the term “Restricted territories apply”. I get it, there are countries out that that we don’t want to be associated with or can’t trade with such as Iran or North Korea. Then there are countries that block online Gaming such as the USA or France, but why is Gibraltar or Isle of Man (which isn’t a country) on the list??
Take a look at every online gaming company and you’ll find that the vast majority of them are set up in one of three places. Gibraltar, Malta and the Isle of Man! The thing is I’ve lived in all three of those and they are all gaming mad. Take online gaming away and the financial infrastructure of those countries would suffer.

Online Gaming is set up in other places too, but why is there a block on sites promotion in the countries they are based in?? That’s like banning Poker in Vegas??

It’s worth pointing out at this stage that if you live in one of the restricted territories then you would find it difficult to play due to IP recognition systems by the gaming companies, but it’s not impossible. Basically the emphasis is on the gaming provider to bloke you, not you to search and bloke them. It doesn’t mean that it isn’t illegal, but unless you are a serial gambler or actively deceive online gaming sites about your location, then very little other than you being blocked would happen.

So what’s the answer? Simple move! Only kidding, but there are gaming platforms that let you play from restricted territories, but you’ll need to find them. In countries such as France and Italy you can only play on sites that are French or Italian sanctioned. The USA is a whole different problem as this is individual to each state. That means it’s OK to play in Vegas but not in Missouri or Texas or Alabama. So if you live there then your only real option is to move.

If you need or want a list of restricted territories for online gaming, then google “Restricted territories” and a basic list will appear. If unsure read the T&C’s of the gaming site you are looking at playing on. Game on.
